Nestled in the heart of Palm Springs, The Real Italian Deli of Palm Springs is much more than just a deli—it's a vibrant slice of authentic Italian culture, carefully crafted to bring the true flavors of Italy to California. As a unique blend of deli, bakery, and market, this charming spot offers a rich, immersive experience for those craving genuine Italian cuisine and specialty ingredients that are often hard to find outside of Italy itself.
Step inside and you’re greeted by the warm aroma of freshly baked bread mingling with the tantalizing scent of homemade marinara sauce simmering gently. Their menu reads like a love letter to Italy, boasting standout dishes such as the mouthwatering Italian Sub, the richly satisfying Parma Sandwich, and the herbaceous, fresh Turkey Pesto Sandwich. Each bite is an explosion of carefully balanced flavors—from the earthy pesto mayo and savory provolone in the Turkey Pesto to the delicate interplay of mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and peppery arugula in the Caprese. Their Spicy Combo Sandwich, loaded with robust mortadella and fiery calabrese salami, is a bold choice for spice lovers, while the Classic Meatball sandwich—made with homemade pork and beef meatballs smothered in marinara—evokes feelings of deep nostalgia, as one delighted customer likened it to a journey back to his Sicilian grandmother’s kitchen.
But The Real Italian Deli isn’t just about sandwiches. It's a culinary emporium where you can find authentic Italian products like guanciale—an ingredient that serious cooks know is indispensable for true Roman pasta dishes such as Amatriciana—plus fresh pasta, cheeses, and hand-crafted gelato. Foodies and home chefs praised the deli for stocking rare ingredients that make cooking Italian meals at home a genuine pleasure.
The atmosphere inside is inviting and casual, enhanced by friendly staff who clearly take pride in sharing the culture and craft behind every product. “They greeted us with smiles,” shared one guest, underscoring the deli’s approachable yet heartfelt hospitality. With roomy benches inside, it’s a perfect spot to savor an oversized sandwich or slice of tiramisu cake that melts delicately on your tongue—the kind of dessert that lingers in your memory long after your last bite.
Multiple patrons noted how something as simple as a sandwich at The Real Italian Deli can spark powerful memories: one customer, a Sicilian native, reminisced about the taste transporting her back to her nonni’s kitchen, while another felt the deeply authentic spirit of Italian cooking passed down through generations. This sense of genuine connection—between food, history, and community—is what sets The Real Italian Deli apart in Palm Springs’ culinary landscape.
Whether you’re stopping by to indulge in a crafted-to-perfection Parma Sandwich, hunting for specialty Italian ingredients like delicate Sicilian nougats, or simply seeking a freshly made salad or premade sandwich to accompany a day’s adventure, The Real Italian Deli of Palm Springs delivers authenticity and heart in every bite. It’s not just a place to eat—it’s a place to experience Italy through taste, tradition, and warmth.
This place is a 10/10. Meatball sandwich is absolutely amazing. I’m Sicilian, and one bite of this sandwich took me back to my noni’s house. The Muffuletta was outstanding, the lemon Caprese cake was lovely. The staff is warm, and inviting. They even had Sicilian nougats that I used to eat when I was a little girl. So happy that places like this exist.
Anyone can cook pasta, but if you want to make an authentic Italian meal you’re gonna have to shop here. I’ve been cooking authentic pasta amatriciana for years now and this Real Italian Deli has guanciale which is very uncommon. Yall, they have guanciale! Cant get more “Real Italian” than that unless you’re in Italy. Aside from the surprisingly authentic and high quality products, the staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming. If you’re staying in Palm Springs you need to shop here.
The Real Italian Deli is, without question, one of the greatest culinary gems in Palm Springs. Their food is absolutely out of this world — the kind of flavors that stop you mid-bite because they’re just that good. This place also holds a special place in my heart. When my grandfather Ron was still alive — a full-blooded Italian whose parents were born in Calabria and were truly passionate cooks — I brought my grandparents here for lunch. My grandfather raved about it, calling it the best Italian deli he had ever eaten at in his entire life. That means more than I can possibly express. His lifelong dream, even after running a successful hair salon for 38 years, was to open an authentic Italian deli of his own. Sandwich making was his art. For him to praise this place so highly is the absolute highest compliment I could ever give any restaurant. I recently returned for lunch with my new friend and we were thrilled to discover that the quality is still every bit as incredible as it was eight years ago. Same flavors, same craftsmanship, same unforgettable experience. If you want real Italian food made with passion, skill, and heart — this is the spot. Always has been. Always will be.
We found this place because our usual was closed for renovations. Sherman’s deli is where we usually eat. The Real Italian really was! We had a huge roast beef on ciabatta, delicious also they have benches inside to sit. Also you can buy any of your pasta, sauces and cheeses there. Great desserts.
Today was the first time at this deli. Super cute, great service (greeted with smiles), delicious sandwiches. My husband had the meatball sandwich, which he loved! I got the pesto turkey, and ordered a second for our coworker. I should have just got the one sandwich and shared with her, it was so big! And also very delicious! Actually all three of us had half a sandwich left. Which was great because dinner was taken care of. Haha! I must admit I was a little leary because it's a little pricey. But if you can get 2 meals out of it and delicious, as well....It's definitely worth the price. We already plan on making it a weekly stop.
They make their own bread and it is delicious. You can also buy their bread as well and other items they make. Not a whole lot of seating, but whether you eat your sandwiche there or take it home, it tastes great. Great place!
